Several international flights from Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport have been cancelled following widespread airspace closures across parts of the Middle East. The disruptions come amid escalating tensions in the region, prompting airlines to suspend operations on key routes connecting Kolkata with Gulf destinations.
According to airport sources, services operated by Emirates to Dubai, Qatar Airways to Doha, Etihad Airways to Abu Dhabi and other carriers to Saudi Arabia were cancelled. Passengers complained of receiving little or no prior intimation, leading to crowding and distress at the airport terminal. Indian carriers Air India, IndiGo and SpiceJet have also announced temporary suspension or disruption of Middle East services, citing safety concerns and regional airspace restrictions. Airlines said the measures were precautionary and would be reviewed depending on further developments.
Amid reports of Indian passengers being stranded at airports in the United Arab Emirates, the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi said it is closely monitoring the situation and remains in touch with local authorities and airlines. Authorities have advised travellers to check flight status with airlines before heading to the airport as uncertainty continues.
